Love of Wonder

I haven`t been updating the blog lately. Instead I have shared some of my drawings to Instagram so go there if you haven`t seen them yet. Here is couple of images of the last volume of Hatter M. titled Love of Wonder. I have already started a new graphic novel project; more about that later.

Dark Engine comps

Dark Engine #1 variant cover. I`ve been off Helsinki so I got my copies just minutes ago. Note the back cover (and ignore the bad iPhone shot): The writer Ryan Burton wanted it to be in Finnish although this is published by Image Comics in United States. Cool! The cover here is mine but the book itself is illustrated by John Bivens.

The Writhing Dark Anthology

The Writhing Dark Anthology is the companion piece to Shane Tyree’s Kickstarter project, Call of Cthulhu: The Writhing Dark - Playing Cards and Tarot, which successfully funded on December 9, 2013. This e-book anthology of short stories and poetry will be comprised entirely of submissions centering on the weird, horrific, and unknown from the Kickstarter’s backer community. In addition to over forty backer submissions, the e-book will include eight story illustrations drawn by Shane Tyree and two graphic novelizations of backer stories with art by Sami Makkonen. The final product will be printed, bound, and interred in the Lovecraft collection.

Backers also had the opportunity to order a limited edition print copy containing both of the graphic novelizations, the story illustration artwork, and a small selection of the backer submissions (3-4 stories). The print edition will only available through pre-ordering. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy for $20 (who didn’t already through the Kickstarter) needs to e-mail twdpledgemanager@gmail.com and ask for a link to the pledge manager before January 30. Both the print copy and e-book have an anticipated delivery date of April 2014.

Hellraiser: Dark Watch

One of the newer covers I did for the series...

Ryse Issue 2 cover

You can read Ryse digital interactive graphic novel issue 2 at Xbox site. I`m just finishing issue 3. I have drawn everything for the print version plus I did cover number 3 last week which I`m pretty satisfied with.  Still some art to do for the interactive part of the comic.

RYSE: Sword of Damocles

The digital and print comic book RYSE: Sword of Damocles was unveiled yesterday at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. The announcement took place during the panel: Bringing the Roman Empire to Life on Xbox One: The Creation of “Ryse: Son of Rome." The panel was hosted by Major Nelson, and it included Justin Robey, producer from Microsoft, Mike Read, producer from Crytek, and Peter Gornstein, cinematic director at Crytek.

Here is what Justin Robey, producer from Microsoft said: "One of the cool exclusives we've built is a digital interactive comic that you can check out online, created in partnership with IDW and artist Sami Makkonen. It's a really cool interactive comic where you can find hidden gold that will be awarded to you when you play the game. We have also printed a limited edition run of this comic to give out throughout Comic-Con. Pick one up on your way out!"

People were excited to get their hands on a comic. Before closing, every copy the team had brought for the day had been claimed. The digital comic went live on http://xbox.com/ryse, and was announced on the official Xbox Twitter and Facebook accounts.
This project introduced many firsts, from the ability to unlock in-game rewards by reading a digital comic, to being able to track Xbox One and game pre-orders triggered from comic ads, to getting telemetry and metrics on how readers use, share, and enjoy the comic, to being able to host a truly multi-platform interactive HTML5 app on xbox.com infrastructure, to a major comics house working very closely with Microsoft Studios, instead of working off on their own, to create an incredible work of art that stemmed from the minds of engineers, artists, writers, sound designers, animators, and producers alike.
“Comic is bitch'n and apparently you earn gold for the full game in it.”
-NeoGaf
"Oh...my....god.... Take my money now!"
"Cool art!"
"The interactions were pretty cool!"
-Facebook
"Cool comic, and I like the motion comic aspects of it. Plus, I can't complain about free items for the game later."
-Reddit
“I love this graphic novel!”

For those who`ve been wondering

For those who`ve been wondering: the reason I haven`t posted any drawings lately. I`m working on a top secret project for IDW and cannot publish any of the material or say anything about it. Other than it`s going to be great and something new! The project is keeping me so busy I don`t have time to draw anything else (that I could post). Be patient.
